Canadian Delinquent

The New Year is a time for a fresh new start for most people that is unless you’re Justin Bieber. I am sure just about everyone is tired of seeing him pop up in the news for something else scandalous he has done. And Beliebers are not happy! The once beloved Justin Bieber is now having his fans turn on him, as well as the rest of the United States. They have even gone as far as making a petition to deport him back to Canada. You can check out the petition here. It has received so many signatures that now President Obama has to acknowledge the petition and declare what is going to happen to the Biebs. Who would have thought that this would happen to the ever so heart-wrenching Justin Bieber? Well, there is a list of reasons why but I’ll only name a few or we could be here all day.

Well the most recent one that has screened all across the United States on probably just about every news network was Bieber being arrested for drag racing under the influence of prescription drugs, marijuana, and alcohol. Not to mention that he had an expired license and he resisted arrest. Many fans waited patiently outside for him to be released and when he was, he was sure to make a statement by sitting on his car and waving to all his fans. Then there was when he egged his neighbor’s house and is now facing felony charges, took pictures with a stripper, and finally smoked marijuana on a plane while the pilots wore oxygen masks.

This is Justin Bieber right after he was released from jail. Instead of getting right into his car, he decided to jump on top and wave to all his fans.

Talk about having a rough time!

Fans all over still continue to support Bieber and stand by his side. But many long ago already started turning their head when he changed up his music style and got covered in tattoos. Many people believe he is just trying to make a statement saying that he is no longer a little kid anymore and that he is trying to break out of that kid fan base. But isn’t this a little extreme?

Many of the people who signed the petition want Bieber out because he is reflecting the country in a negative way. The petition says, “We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation’s youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society”. The petition now has currently reached over 250,000 signatures! Are ex-fans over reacting, or does Bieber really need to go back to wear he came from? Although this does seems like a lot of people, there are probably millions that would outweigh this petition. Many fans are standing by his side through this all claiming that he is just being a kid. Quite frankly I think if Bieber committed a murder his fans would still not care and would probably support him 100%. His fans would do just about anything for him, and I mean ANYTHING.

So the question here is, are people overreacting by trying to get Justin Bieber deported? Is the news spiraling this out of control by making it such a hot topic? What should happen to Justin Bieber?

  1. Ah quite the ever present problem of trying to separate the celebrity form their persona. How much of their persona is true? Usually very little, and then fans are stunned and betrayed when they don’t act like that in real life. From my observations, in the ever on going cycle of rising star, fame, down fall, the fans will eventually turn on their idol. It seems to me that Harvey Dent was right, “You die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain” indeed. Deporting Bieber to Canada seems beyond extreme to me. If we were to banish every drunken asshole that comes along, I assure you at least a quarter of the nation would be removed from its own soil. I love though how they are not outraged by his drunken driving and reckless behavior, but rather how it represents Americans in pop culture, despite him not being American. Ah I am quite reminded of the fall from grace of one Ms. Spears. Hell, I’m old enough to remember the backlash to boy bands from the late 90s to the early 2000s.

Not many tend to think of the burden of fame, and yet they aspire to it, not knowing the drawbacks. I find the most tragic cases to be those of the teen idol who grow up with a skewed perception of reality, only to have it crash down around them once their time in the spot light is over: and then they don’t know how to function in the world that suddenly hates them completely. It truly is pitiable, not that their fans care for the person, only the persona that they perceive them to be. Who cares though, look how the fool dances in their gilded cage before they are ripped out shamed, only for another to be thrown in to restart the cycle.
