So there’s no harm in saying it: I’m a massive MCU fangirl, and I’ve been over the moon with the last couple of installments in the Marvel Universe pre-Avengers 2. The newest film is pretty much the god of all films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s been doing so well in test screenings that they’re already coming up with Cap 3… and honestly? I couldn’t be more excited. Just look at how amazing the Superbowl trailer was.
But… alright. So we have all these awesome superhero movies, but where’s the ladies? If you don’t think a main female superhero film is important, then you’re an idiot and I don’t want to talk to you for your misogynistic reasons. Us ladies (and some dudes) are dying for a kick-ass female who will blow us away. (Though hopefully it won’t go into the male fantasy bit, but I digress. This is a fandom blog, not a why-we-should-stop-sexualizing-women blog.)
There’s talk of a Black Widow movie, which shakes up everything. Scarlet will have a much bigger role in the Avengers 2 and The Winter Soldier, but they’re talking about how they could make it so that the heroine has her own film, a big breakthrough in superhero movies. Perhaps it’ll even be one of the biggest, opening doors for female characters like Carol Danvers or Janet Van Dyne, maybe even She-Hulk etc. As quoted in this article:
“We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March. [Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”
