Black Widow? Shut Up.

So there’s no harm in saying it: I’m a massive MCU fangirl, and I’ve been over the moon with the last couple of installments in the Marvel Universe pre-Avengers 2. The newest film is pretty much the god of all films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s been doing so well in test screenings that they’re already coming up with Cap 3… and honestly? I couldn’t be more excited. Just look at how amazing the Superbowl trailer was.

But… alright. So we have all these awesome superhero movies, but where’s the ladies? If you don’t think a main female superhero film is important, then you’re an idiot and I don’t want to talk to you for your misogynistic reasons. Us ladies (and some dudes) are dying for a kick-ass female who will blow us away. (Though hopefully it won’t go into the male fantasy bit, but I digress. This is a fandom blog, not a why-we-should-stop-sexualizing-women blog.)

There’s talk of a Black Widow movie, which shakes up everything. Scarlet will have a much bigger role in the Avengers 2 and The Winter Soldier, but they’re talking about how they could make it so that the heroine has her own film, a big breakthrough in superhero movies. Perhaps it’ll even be one of the biggest, opening doors for female characters like Carol Danvers or Janet Van Dyne, maybe even She-Hulk etc. As quoted in this article:

“We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March. [Black] Widow’s part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”

  1. My friends and I were just talking about this tonight and I had posted a comment on another person’s blog about it. Marvel and DC are afraid of doing something people won’t know how to take. They’ve been introducing women characters in male dominated movies to see the fans’ reactions. DC is putting Wonder Woman into the Batman v Superman movie, but she’s no longer and Amazonian princess, but a girl from Krypton. Bleh. Disgusting. They don’t want to give her her own movie and my friend agreed by saying that she can’t see how they’d do it without it being a 2 hour fapfest for nerds who can’t get any. And let’s be honest, the outfits they give these amazing ladies don’t leave much to the imagination. We said how Miss Marvel would be awesome as a movie or even Spiderwoman (although she’d be in the shadow of Spiderman in all honesty). DC has been holding back on characters while Marvel’s been like “A Norse God in an age of religious debates? Sure! Why not?! A giant green monster that hasn’t really done well for us before? Let’s try it again!”
There’s a lot of girls in the comic book universes that would do amazing on their own, but not a lot of people think that. It’s sad. I’m really hoping they come out with a Black Widow movie or even Spiderwoman, Miss Marvel, Black Cat (ok that’s a stretch but I love her!) to make up for that Elektra movie (bleh!). Lol.

    1. I think if there is anyone female super-hero who could have a successful film, it very well could be Black Window. Not that she was a big character in Avenger, but the potential fan base that movie created is larger than most others.
